My Mommy Ready Journey

Each of us has a different reason we find ourselves searching for a program like Mommy Ready. One woman may be desperate to rid herself of back pain and one woman may wish she could laugh without leaking urine. Symptoms such as poor posture, hip pain and popping, lack of abdominal strength, pelvic pain as well as many more issues lead us to wonder "How can I get back to being me?" after pregnancy.

Let me share with you what has lead me to search for The Mommy Ready Program.

As a mother of two, I have experienced pregnancy and postpartum recovery. I had fairly uneventful pregnancies. Nausea and fatigue were my most notable symptoms.

I was an avid Crossfitter for my second pregnancy. I had no direction as to what I should and should not be doing as far as exercise was concerned. I was convinced that I should just maintain a lower heart rate and continue to do what I was doing before pregnancy.

I specifically remember doing a move called "toes to bar". I was laughing and showing my friend how my tummy protruded as I lifted my legs up towards the bar overhead! Little did I know that my attempts to get stronger were making my problem worse.

Needless to say, I had a significant Diastasis Recti postpartum. At the time, I did not know that my abdominal muscles were split despite my profession in Physical Therapy. Diastasis Recti wasn't a symptom we treated in my clinic and like many providers, I really had no experience in the area of postpartum care and exercise.

My delivery was a scheduled c-section. No complications and very little postpartum pain. I was out walking and ready to get back to exercising.

After my 6 week follow up appointment, my doctor gave the the go-ahead to exercise. No restrictions! I was elated and went directly to my gym. I proceeded to do 30 sit ups in the warm up and 50 in the work out! No pain during, but the next day I couldn't sit up out of bed.

I ended up doing some research online on what to do if you have a Diastasis Recti. I found some tips and started to use them, but the separation between my rectus muscles persisted despite my efforts.

My most recent pregnancy was more than 7 years ago. I met Heather and discovered the Mommy Ready program as a resource for my patients.

I found so much success with my patients that I knew I HAD to do it myself.
